The best way to find or contact me is through Instagram. I constantly post new works, announce shows, and keep up with my account. I seem to only go to my Deviant site a few times a year at this point, so,... Follow me on Instagram!! I'm @rat136 on IG.

i've got a BIG batch of new works going into the Bluxome gallery for a show this saturday....this is a fantastic group of works that i'm really hyped on. i will post no pics on deviant until after the show. see the flyer in my gallery for details on the show. i did this insane body of work in 34 days at over 300 hours while working 40 hour weeks at the day job and spending time with the family throughout the holidays. how? no sleep!! this show will be worth all of the torture come out!!

also in this show will be Ken Davis with amazing hand painted sign work that transcends your ideas of traditional sign painting. simply amazing!!! and rounding out the show is the amazing Doubleparlour. Doubleparlour will feature their beautiful sculptural works. i love these guys! Doubleparlour is featured in the current issue of Hi Fructose magazine, so go out and grab a copy to see their unbelievable talents!!

here is where you need to go: www.63bluxomestreetgallery.com…

so that is why i have had such a long absence from you wonderful peeps on deviant art...

see ya

I am stoked to have the Canvas feature in this month's Thrasher magazine. I'm a long time skater and have done skate deck graphics for board companies. This pretty much rules though. Every artist/skateboarder wants the Canvas feature in the bible of skateboarding...I guess my number was up. check out the post.

hopefully i can keep the graffiti and anime work down to a minimum and produce art that is in neither genre. in doing this i will be able to contribute to the less than 10 percent of the work on deviant art that is not graff or anime.....and i have nothing against GOOD graffiti and anime either. really.

i have not kept up with the journal, or deviantart for that matter, in a long time. i will be better...

18 shows last year with a massive solo show. 2 little books of my doodles created and sold to people who wanted material of that nature. been in a bunch of zines and mags. painted, drew, and did wood projects like a mad man. i posted only a fraction of the work in last 12 months. in short, artistically too busy, and gaining momentum going into this year... this almost sounds like bitching, but i'm actually stoked.

sorry to you people who got replies to comments, like, a month or more later. it's like, "who the f**k is this guy, and what the f**k is he talking about?" when i answer so late. i like cruising and sharing on DA and i'll make more time for it by spending a fraction less time on facebook.

at least i still look like the profile pic i put up a year or more ago...except a bit of gray in my beard and slightly more ugly around the face. so that stays the same,...as to continue some of the "lazy" i made famous in 2010.

cheers!

Matt136 – a solo show
January 8th, 2010 – February 7, 2010
Opening reception, January 9, 2010, 7:00pm – 10:00pm
Autobody Fine Art

Autobody Fine Art is proud to present a solo show by artist Matt136. This will mark the first time in Autobody's history that we have given one artist the entire space to work with and it is a testament to the remarkable skill, dedication and creative purpose that is evident in Matt136 artworks.

The exhibition will feature a variety of works ranging from minutely detailed drawings that elicit Renaissance comparisons with Durer and Michelangelo, to brightly colored assemblages that carry complicated meaning within their formal arrangement. A cast of recurring characters appear throughout the artwork including a plump little rat, symbolic images of the artist himself, flying toasters, hand grenades and Michael Jackson alongside numbers and text which in their specificity allude to a greater narrative.

For this show Matt136 will be producing a site-specific mural within the space which will tie in with the multiple other elements occupying the gallery walls. As the viewer attempts to take in the installation as a whole, this rhythm will be interrupted as the eye alights on individual art pieces that captivate through charm and idiosyncrasy.

Matt136 is meticulous in his craft. Old vinyl records are sawn into landscapes across which people and animals march and a simple ball point pen is used to produce highly detailed images through repetitive cross hatching. As a skateboarder, Matt136 has produced a number of skate decks and also deconstructs the boards themselves to act as environments for his characters. The work is obsessive and extremely focused but retains a playful, almost cartoon-like quality that allows Matt136 to address complicated personal and social issues while still seducing his audience. Drowning drunks, insecure parents and a variety of levels of frustration are all mirrored in his characters, as is a celebration of the diversity of emotions and challenges that face both the artist and his audience.
